Astrology is an ancient science, with evidence of its use dating back to the time when the Bible was written—possibly even earlier, during the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. It has been integral to medicine for thousands of years, beginning in Mesopotamia in the second millennium BCE and continuing into the 18th century. The practice was most prevalent in Europe during the late medieval and early modern periods, from around 1450 AD to 1700 AD. Over time, astrology has evolved, and today it offers an alternative view of the world, helping to soothe the restlessness that often arises after watching the news.
Today, astrologers still create natal charts to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their personalities, destinies, relationships, careers, and even past and future lives. Astrology can support personal growth and foster understanding in relationships. Some rare astrologers also use it to provide bereavement coaching, offering deeper insights into life and death. Many astrologers and followers find comfort in the guidance astrology provides, especially when navigating life’s complexities and answering difficult questions.
In recent years, many of us have noticed a growing divide in the United States—a separation among the people. There are clearly illusions and misunderstandings on both sides, leading to family disputes and a general feeling of isolation. The COVID-19 pandemic intensified this, bringing not only division but also widespread fear, death, and isolation. While some resisted fear as if in protest, others were consumed by it. Between then and now, you may have wondered, “Why is this happening?” You might have explored various explanations from sociologists, but astrology offers insights that go beyond the idea of human corruption or mental illness.
Astrology provides a deeper understanding of the current events by examining the movements of planets, particularly Pluto, during and after the pandemic.
The United States is experiencing its first Pluto Return, an event that occurs approximately every 240 years. This isn’t just a single day but a process that unfolds over several years. Pluto has returned to the position it occupied when the United States was born, during the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. At that time, Pluto was at 27 degrees in Capricorn. While humans don’t live long enough to experience a Pluto Return personally, countries do. In contrast, individuals experience a “Saturn Return” between the ages of 27 and 30, a period of intense personal upheaval and transformation. Do you remember what happened during your Saturn Return? It often turns your world upside down, just as a Pluto Return does for a nation.
Pluto represents themes of ancestors, death, fear, power, and control. Its transits can bring these heavy topics to the forefront, forcing us to confront and transform them. Pluto’s influence is about destruction and renewal, as sometimes things must get really bad before they can improve. The corruption within the government is something most people, regardless of their political stance, can agree on. However, how to address it is up for debate. Pluto’s return signals a period of profound transformation, where old structures are dismantled to make way for something new and better.
Pluto was in Capricorn during much of this period and briefly entered Aquarius before returning to Capricorn in September 2024. This back-and-forth motion is part of Pluto’s process, urging us to learn the necessary lessons. On January 6, 2021, Pluto was at 22 degrees Capricorn, close to its original 27-degree position at the nation’s founding. This alignment brought significant events that made many wonder about their meaning and the lessons they conveyed.
When examining the charts of prominent figures like Trump and Biden, you can see how they seem destined for their roles in this period of American history. The challenges they present are meant to catalyze change, pushing the country toward necessary transformations. The division in the nation is a response to the fear, power, and control being wielded, forcing us toward inevitable changes.
As Pluto moves back and forth between Capricorn and Aquarius, it highlights the tension between the old systems (Capricorn) and the revolutionary energy of progress (Aquarius). Capricorn is associated with systems, regulations, and hard truths, while Aquarius embodies inclusivity, innovation, and the future. Uranus, the planet linked to Aquarius, is currently in Taurus, a sign known for its stubbornness and resistance to change. This creates a push-and-pull dynamic between the desire to move forward and the inclination to cling to the past.
As we enter the 2024 election season, Pluto will be retrograde until just before the election, going direct on October 12th, 2024. This period will likely bring intense power struggles and fears to the surface, but power will change hands in a way that will be for all of us, Aquarius. Additionally, watch for December 6th, 2024, when Mars goes retrograde on top of the USA’s North Node, a significant astrological event usually linked to major changes, this will bring tensions and aggression down and force most of us to look within. A final shift into what is worth fighting for and what’s important to each and every one of us and most importantly what is most significant in the future of the United States.
As an astrologer, I tend to approach predictions with optimism. While many astrologers agree that significant events are likely, much will depend on our free will—our collective desire to change, bridge divides, and evolve. Free will influences how events unfold, whether through actions like picking up a gun or choosing to protest. We no longer settle disputes through duels, as in the past; instead, we find new ways to fight for change. This evolution is evident in how the universe reflects our experiences here on Earth, guiding us through periods of growth and transformation.
In these challenging times, we must remember that the universe is unfolding as it should. As Max Ehrmann wrote in 1927, “You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”
